Don Morrison, PhD

Dr. Don Morrison is a distinguished statistician and marketing expert with a career spanning decades in academia and research. He served as a professor at UCLA Anderson for over 30 years, following a tenure at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. His expertise lies in marketing research and applied statistics, and he has authored or co-authored more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Beyond academia, Dr. Morrison has contributed as an expert witness in legal cases and as a consultant to industrial firms and government agencies. He co-authored the book Stochastic Models of Buying Behavior and has held key editorial roles with INFORMS, including Editor-in-Chief of Management Science and Founding Editor of Marketing Science. He has also served as President of the Institute of Management Sciences and as a trustee of the Marketing Science Institute.

Dedicated to mentoring future scholars, Dr. Morrison has advised 18 PhD students, many of whom now hold leadership positions in top marketing departments across the country. Even as a professor emeritus, he remains engaged with UCLA Anderson, serving on admissions committees and supporting the school’s initiatives.

Dr. Morrison and his wife, Dr. Sherie Morrison, have been generous supporters of UCLA Anderson. Their $10 million gift established the Morrison Family Center for Marketing Studies and Data Analytics, one of the leading centers for marketing research in the digital age.

In addition to his academic and philanthropic work, Dr. Morrison was formerly a trustee for Hotchkis & Wiley and served on the advisory board for Northern Trust.

He holds a PhD in Operations Research from Stanford University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he was Eastern Conference long jump champion, captain of the track team, and left as the No. 2 All-Time long jumper.
